Legionellen werden zu einem immer häufiger auftretenden Problem: gesperrte Duschen und teils schwere Erkrankungen sind sichtbare Auswirkungen. Um dem vorzubeugen, ist die H-Reihe der PURION Anlagen entwickelt worden. Das „H“ steht dabei für Heißwasser, denn genau diese Kreisläufe sind der Einsatzort der UV-C-Desinfektionsanlage. Ohne die optimal eingestellte Temperatur zu ändern und ohne Geschmacks- und Geruchsveränderungen tötet diese Anlage gezielt Legionellen und andere Bakterien, die unter großer Hitze überleben können, ab. Die Variante der UV-C-Desinfektion ist dabei nicht nur äußerst effizient und gründlich sondern im Vergleich zu allen anderen Arten der Legionellenbekämpfung sehr sparsam in den Unterhaltungskosten. Gerade für energiebewusste Besitzer von Solaranlagen ist dies eine erfreuliche Nachricht. Der stromsparende Effekt ihrer Solaranlage würde nämlich fast gänzlich aufgehoben, wenn das bereits erwärmte Wasser mit Strom weiter erhitzt werden muss, um die Legionellen abzutöten.

The UVC disinfection plant should always be the final link in a water treatment system, because the distance to the tapping point has to be kept short. Especially water filters offer ideal conditions for germs and bacteria. The just disinfected water would be contaminated if it would be left in the water cycle. Pressure vessels should be always installed before the plants too.
Every UVC lamp has a natural drop in its UVC efficiency. The manufacturer guarantees that the lamp has an efficiency of 60% after 10.000h of operation. The calculation of this plants is always referring to 60% efficiency. Above 10.000 operating hours the efficiency drop is increasing. The lamp is still working but will not perform an optimal result.
If no water withdrawal takes place during operation, the water inside the plants reactor is heated up. The 10W, 17W and 36W plants will not heat the water above 40°C which has no negative impact. The 48W and 90W plant versions will heat the water further which will reduce the UVC lamps life expectancy. Thereby it is recommended to ensure a constant water flow.
No, the UVC lamps technical characteristics don't allow this for 2 reasons. First of all every on and off cycle will reduce the lamps life duration by approximately 1 hour. And furthermore the plants need 10 to 15 seconds to be fully operational. It is recommended to keep the plant activated in possible periods of use.
The average water consumption per day is not of importance here but which peak values can occur. Thereby the correct UVC plant is determined through the existing tapping points and the number of users. A regular water tap has an output of 300 to 500 l/h. In case of doubt the next larger plant should be used.
By rule of thumb 3 times the pool content should flow through the plant to eliminate all of the algae. It is important to know the flow capacity of the used pump. This will determine the required UVC plant.
Continuous rain or the defrosting of the pool water after a winter lead to an extraordinary amount of algae in the water. Small amounts of chlorine can be used as flocculants in this case. As an ecological alternative there are biological flocculating agents with similar efficiency. An easier way would be to extend the pump runtime, so that 4 or 5 times the pool content can flow through the UVC plant. However this short-term configuration needs some experience depending on the pool.
Special amalgam lamps are built in the PURION H-series which have maximum effectiveness in hot water circuits. Therefore legionella bacteria can be eliminated directly and reliably.
The UVC-sensors purpose is to measure the UVC efficiency directly on the lamp. This assures increased safety for the user, because every drop in efficiency will be directly signalized. This can be a low transmission or the natural wear and tear of the lamp.
An Operating Time Counter is recommended for all users who don't leave the plant operating permanently. The UVC lamp has to be replaced every 10.000h operating hours (see question 2).
